The Best Self Defense Techniques and Products – Weapons

Choosing the best self defense techniques and products is confusing for many people.  Becoming familiar with what different weapons can do and how to use them will increase your confidence and safety.  Some are easy to use, some of them pose a danger if the attacker gets them and can actually use them on you. Your choice should be convenient to conceal and easy to get to and use.  Weapons are available in many shapes, sizes, weights, and lethality.

Weapons to pause an attacker

  • A Baton: a 6 inch long stick made of a hard material such as wood, steel or a strong plastic.  A short stick can be used to hit bones, muscle, ribs, stomach, solar plexus, spine, forearms, knuckles, neck, shins or eyes.  A stock could be used as a substitute.
  • A Strike Bezel Flashlight: Another similar weapon is a flashlight with a Strike Bezel.  You can use it for a flashlight and to defend yourself using the strike bezel.  It will painfully pause your attacker.
  • A Self Defense Pen: A pen writes well and also works as a puncture weapon.  You can carry it in your purse or handbag.  A letter opener can be used as a substitute.
  • Taser Stun Gun: It can be stored just about anywhere and it’s very effective.
  • Brass Knuckles: These are not legal in all states but they are very effective.
  • A roll of quarters can be used to help pack a punch.
  • Pepper Spray: This tool is very effective from a long distance, stopping the attacker from getting into your personal space.
  • Wasp spray can be used and have a 20 foot shooting range.  Carry extras in case of defect.
  • A Killer Keyring: If you’re heading to your car late at night, carry your loaded keyring.  Keys can be used on their own.  You can attach some very useful objects to them, such as a stick, brass knuckles, pepper spray or stun gun.
Whichever self defense technique or product you choose, thinking about your protection options before you need them is a must.  You must also learn about the methods you choose such as the pressure needed to incapacitate them, how long the effects last and what the effects are if successful.  Some may be more effective if immediately repeated or followed up with an alternative action.  The good thing about some of these suggestions is that they are not lethal and could save your life.  So the fear of using them is removed and most will not backfire and get you further endangered.

Now that you’ve made your attacker pause, you can stop them in their tracks if necessary.  These self defense techniques and products are good to know, but also depend on how incapacitated they are.  Knowing your options will help you make an on-the-spot decision.  Some options will depend on whether you can safely make contact with your or attacker or need to stop them from a distance.
